The Sausalito Marin City School District serves Sausalito and Marin City. There are approximately 280 students served by three elementary schools: Bayside, Martin Luther King Jr. Academy and Willow Creek. The area is part of Tamalpais Union High School with most graduating students attending Tamalpais aka "Tam".

The Mill Valley School District has 5 elementary schools and 1 middle school with an enrollment of approximately 2,200 students in grades K through 8. Four of the schools are located within the City of Mill Valley, while two are located nearby in the unincorporated areas of Strawberry and Tamalpais Valley. All five elementary schools feed into the middle school that feed into the Tamalpais Union High with most graduating students attending Tamalpais High School.

Many families move to Mill Valley for the fantastic public schools that our property tax dollars help fund. In addition to municipal dollars, PTA's and a private non-profit named 'KIDDO' raise funds for additional curriculum in the arts and technology. Below is a list of Mill Valley public schools.

Tiburon's Reed Union School district is named after adventurer John Reed, The first Anglo-Saxon settler in Marin, (http://www.reedschools.org ) and is widely considered to be one of Southern Marin's best elementary school system. Reed Union district serves Belvedere, Tiburon and a portion of Corte Madera. Enrollment is approximately 1,050 students with class size averaging 20 students. API scores for the RUSD are 945 among the highest in the state.

The Larkspur School District serves Larkspur and Corte Madera and enrollment is just over 1,100 students. There is one elementary schools, Neil Cummins, one Middle school (Hall Middle) and graduating students are part of Tamalpais Union High and most attend Redwood High. Both Neil Cummins elementary and Hall Middle School have been recognized as a California Distinguished School-the state's highest honor for overall program excellence.

The Kentfield School District

The Kentfield School District rivals Reed Union School District and Ross School District as the Best in Marin County. Anthony G. Bacich Elementary (K-4) and A.E. Kent Middle School (5-8) are ranked in the 99th percentile and both are supported by private Kentfield Schools Foundation as well as a tight-knit PTA. Both schools have been noted as California Distinguished schools for outstanding academic performance. Graduating students are part of Tamalpais Union High School and most attend Redwood High.

The Ross School District

The Ross School District serves Ross and sections of Kentfield and has only one school, Ross School, which provides education for students from Kindergarten thru 8th grade. All students continuing in the public school system are part of Tamalpais Union and typically enter Redwood High School. Unique to Ross school is the Learning Lab Program which provides extra help for students in specific areas of need. . In 1991, Child magazine named Ross Elementary School as one of the top ten schools in the nation. The academic ranking is the 99th percentile, the highest any school can achieve

The Ross Valley School District

The Ross Valley School District is different from the Ross School District and is an elementary / middle school district serving the central Marin communities of San Anselmo and Fairfax. District enrollment is approximately 1,775 students and upon graduation, students are then part of the Tamalpais.

San Rafael has two elementary school districts:

The San Rafael Elementary School District which has six elementary schools, one K-8 school and one middle schools. The schools for kindergarten through fifth grade are Bahia Vista, Coleman, Glenwood, Laurel Del, San Pedro and Sun Valley Elementary Schools. Gallinas is the K-8th school. J.B. The Dixie School District which serves northern San Rafael, Terra Linda, Marinwood, Lucas Valley, and a portion of Contempo Marin. The district has three elementary schools (Dixie, Vallecito and Mary E. Silveria Elementary Schools), and sixth through 8th graders attend Mill Creek Middle School. The Novato Unified School District serves children in Kindergarten through grade 12 in Northern Marin. It is the only school district in the county that has both elementary, Middle and High schools all within the same school district. The district includes 8 elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools, and two charter schools. Total enrollment is about 7,700 students.

This small K-8 school district serves 115 students from Stinson Beach, Bolinas and the nearby rural areas. There are two campuses: one serves K-2nd and the other serves 3rd-8th. All students graduating are served by the Tamalpais Union High School District.

This is a K-12 school district serving the West Marin communities along Bodega and Tomales Bay. District enrollment is about 650 students. . All students graduating are served by the Tamalpais Union High School District.

The are several rural schools serving the primarily agrarian schools.

Tamalpais Union High School District

Tamalpais Union High serves all of Marin's elementary school districts with the exception of San Rafael Elementary which feeds into the San Rafael High School District, and Novato and Shoreline Unified. Enrollment is 3,910 students served by three schools: Redwood, Sir Francis Drake and Tamalpais-all of which are California Distinguished Schools-and two alternative schools: San Andreas and Tamiscal Union High School. District Students reside in the Marin Community College District and may go to its "College of Marin" a two year program.

San Rafael High School District

San Rafael High provides secondary education to students residing in the two elementary school districts in the San Rafael area: San Rafael Elementary and Dixie. Enrollment is approximately 2,100. There are two primary high schools in this district San Rafael High and Terra Linda with and alternative school, Madrone.
